Site types

Every pixel has a site type, set on the Pixels page: each pixel shows its type as a pill next to Rename, and you click it to change. The type decides how plays are counted. It never changes what the pixel collects.

Site typeModeUse it when
Dwell (default)DwellYou are not sure, or the page has no player vidstats can read.
File hostVideoYou host the file and play it in a real <video> player on your page.
Media playerVideoA web player (yours or a library) that fires play, progress, and complete events.
Video APIDwellA player embedded from a video API or CDN that vidstats cannot instrument.
Streaming indexerDwellYou embed a third-party player in an <iframe>.
SubtitlesDwellSubtitle or metadata pages where the visit itself is the signal.
Download siteDwellA download or link page with no on-page player.
Movie and TV databaseDwellA catalog or database page, no player of its own.
AnimeDwellAn anime index or streaming page, typically an iframe embed.
Live TV and sportsDwellLive streams embedded from another host.
  • Video reads the player: a play is counted from real play, progress, and complete signals. More accurate, so prefer it whenever a readable player is present.
  • Dwell has no player events to read, so a play is inferred from time on the page.

A player you control means a video type. An iframe from another host, or no player at all, means a dwell type. Unsure means leave it on Dwell.

New pixels start on Dwell. You can change the type at any time; it takes effect going forward.

Your account’s list is managed by the vidstats team, so the exact names you see may differ.
